While designing the Diamond 25 Mk II, we have strived at every stage to refine the sound coming out of the speakers while maintaining the signature sound philosophy of the entire series. Every element of the second generation was rethought, from the drivers to the cabinet and crossover. As a result, the lowest frequencies have gained depth, speed, and control; the midrange shows even more naturalness and neutrality, and the treble has become more detailed. The outstanding sound is complemented by a subtly updated design, making the speakers look better than ever.
The Diamond 25 Mk II stands out with its unique speaker configuration for a 2.5-way design. The upper woofer, manufactured by Norwegian Seas, has been redesigned by our engineers, and the changes are apparent at first glance. We replaced the dust cap with a phase plug, which provides a more faithful reproduction of the crucial midrange while eliminating the coloration of its higher range caused by resonances in the volume under the cap. It resulted in vocals having even more space and depth while retaining the character of its predecessor. The low end is reproduced by the proven speaker from the first generation, equipped with a long and lightweight aluminum-copper voice coil, providing an adequate supply of dynamics, speed, and versatility in reproducing the lowest registers. The two drivers have been brought closer together, making them work better together in the acoustic field, and the sound source is consistent and less sensitive to changes in listening height. In addition, both speakers are made using Spider Ring technology, designed to enhance control over the manufacturing process of high-end products. The tweeter from Danish Scan-Speak has also been updated with a more powerful neodymium magnet system, reduced voice coil mass, and eliminated ferrofluid. It delivers even better detail and microdynamics at the highest frequencies, with greater efficiency and control. Also new is the dual resonance chamber design, which further reduces the primary resonance of the tweeter. An additional advantage of this speaker is reduced nonlinear distortion.
Compared to its predecessor, the design of the column underwent a gentle facelift. The Diamond 25 Mk II has a steeper front and back angle, which makes it look even better, but also improves the time integration of individual frequency bands. The base of the column has been completely redesigned to create a sleeker silhouette while maintaining a timeless, minimalistic character. The tweeter’s elegant front, crafted from durable black cellular rubber for extended longevity, not only adds a touch of exclusivity but also minimizes sound wave reflections. Cabinet wall vibrations are significantly reduced thanks to carefully considered and precisely placed reinforcements and ribs. Natural sheep’s wool and a new, specially selected soundproofing material combination dampen unwanted standing waves inside the speaker cabinet. The whole set underwent testing using a laser vibrometer and our anechoic chamber to ensure that, after all the changes, the set not only looks fabulous but also sounds excellent.
“The Diamond 25 Mk II needs no encouragement to unfold a three-dimensional stereo soundstage, with sources featuring clear contours and plenty of air between them.”
